How to Choose a Web Development Company in Bengalore
There are hundreds of web development companies in Bengaluru, and from the outside most of them look identical. Similar portfolios, similar promises, wildly different prices.
The difficulty is that you usually cannot judge the work until it is finished — and by then you have paid for it. So the decision has to be made on other evidence.
Here is what that evidence actually looks like.
1. Who will own your website?
This is the most important question on the page, and the one least often asked.
Three things should belong to you, in your name, on accounts you can log into:
- The domain — registered to you, not to the agency
- The hosting account — in your name, with your billing
- The website files and database — yours to take elsewhere
If the agency holds all three, leaving them means starting again. Some companies rely on this. Ask the question directly, and ask for it in writing.
2. Can they explain what the website is for?
A good partner will ask about your business before showing you designs. What do you sell? Who buys it? What should a visitor do — call, enquire, book, purchase?
If the first conversation is about colours, fonts and page counts rather than what the site is meant to achieve, you are buying decoration.
3. Is the price published, or negotiated?
Most Bengaluru agencies will not publish prices. The reason is usually that the price depends on what they think you will pay.
A company that publishes its rates has decided in advance what the work is worth. You can compare it, budget against it, and hold them to it. Our own website packages start at ₹14,999, and we set out what each one includes.
If you are still working out what a reasonable budget looks like, our guide to website costs in Bengaluru covers the ranges in detail.
4. What is actually included?
Two quotes for “a business website” can differ by a factor of five because they are not the same deliverable. Ask specifically:
- How many pages, and is the design custom or a theme?
- Is content writing included, or am I supplying it?
- Is SSL included?
- Is the site mobile-responsive — and will you show me on a phone?
- Is basic SEO setup included — titles, descriptions, sitemap, Search Console?
- Is Google Analytics configured?
- How many rounds of revisions?
- What is the delivery timeline, in working days?
Get the answers in the quotation, not in a conversation.
5. What happens after launch?
A website is not finished when it goes live. It needs updates, backups, security patches and occasional fixes.
Ask what support is included, for how long, and what it costs afterwards. A company that disappears the day after handover is cheaper for a reason.
6. Will you be able to update it yourself?
Changing a phone number or adding a service should not require raising a ticket. Ask to be shown, before you commit, how you would edit a page.
If the answer is “send us the changes and we’ll do it”, factor that into the ongoing cost — because you will be doing it for years.
7. Can they help after the website?
A website on its own generates very little. It needs people arriving at it, whether through search and advertising or through automated follow-up once enquiries come in.
A company that only builds and leaves hands you a working site and no traffic. Ask whether they can help with what comes next — and whether they actually do it for themselves.
Red flags worth walking away from
“Guaranteed page one on Google”
Nobody can guarantee a ranking. Anyone promising it is either targeting phrases nobody searches for, or hoping you will not check.
A price with no written scope
“₹25,000 for a website” means nothing without a list of what that includes.
No physical address or company registration
You are entrusting your online presence to them. You should know who they are. Check for a registered company name and an address you could visit.
Pressure to decide today
A discount that expires this evening is a sales tactic, not a business decision.
A portfolio of sites that are no longer live
Click the portfolio links. If half return errors, ask why.
Local or remote?
A Bengaluru-based company is not automatically better — but proximity does help in practical ways. You can meet. You can visit. Timezone and language are shared. And a local business is easier to hold accountable than a contact form.
If you do choose remotely, be stricter about the ownership questions, not less.
Check the things you can verify
Portfolios are curated. These are not:
- Company registration — a private limited company is on public record
- Reviews on Google or Justdial, where the ratings are not controlled by the company
- Live client websites — open them, check they load, check they work on a phone
- Their own website — if it is slow or broken, that is the standard you are buying
A short checklist before you sign
- Do I own the domain, hosting and website files?
- Is the full scope in writing?
- Is the delivery timeline stated in working days?
- What is included after launch, and for how long?
- Can I edit the site myself?
- What does annual maintenance cost?
- Is there a real company and a real address behind this?
If all seven have clear answers, the price becomes a straightforward comparison. If they do not, the cheapest quote is rarely the cheapest outcome.
